Corrosion in the Petrochemical Industry , Second Edition, is a comprehensive volume on corrosion phenomena in the petroleum, petrochemical, and chemical processing industries.
In Part 1 of this series May issue the authors discussed the ways in which corrosion attacks various parts of a refinery, and described some of the equipment and metals used to combat these attacks. In Part 2 methods for treating corroded parts are described. Garner, F. Report bugs here. Please share your general feedback. Chinedu I. Effective management of assets in the oil and gas industry is vital in ensuring equipment availability, increased output, reduced maintenance cost, and minimal nonproductive time NPT. Due to the high cost of assets used in oil and gas production, there is a need to enhance performance through good assets management techniques. This major risk in oil and gas production requires the understanding of the failure mechanism and procedures for assessment and control. For reduced pipeline failure and enhanced life cycle, corrosion experts should understand the mechanisms of corrosion, the risk assessment criteria, and mitigation strategies. This paper explores existing research in pipeline corrosion, in order to show the mechanisms, the risk assessment methodologies, and the framework for mitigation.
Kermani, A. The present mechanistic understanding and practical implications of carbon dioxide CO 2 corrosion of carbon and low-alloy steels in hydrocarbon production have been reviewed. This is based on the fact that CO 2 corrosion is by far the most prevalent form of attack encountered in upstream operations. The intent of the review was to provide information on the mechanisms, highlight key parameters affecting its occurrence, and draw attention to areas requiring further research. The primary focus was placed on two key parameters affecting CO 2 corrosion that had received little systematic attention, including the morphology, nature, and characteristics of the surface film and steel composition, microstructure, and finishing conditions. In addition, the role of environmental and hydrodynamic variables is briefly presented.

Tuttle, R. Distinguished Author Series articles are general, descriptiverepresentations that summarize the state of the art in an area of technology bydescribing recent developments for readers who are not specialists in thetopics discussed. Written by individuals recognized as experts in the area, these articles provide key references to more definitive work and presentspecific details only to illustrate the technology. Purpose: to informthe general readership of recent advances in various areas of petroleumengineering.
In order to ensure smooth and uninterrupted flow of oil and gas to the end users, it is imperative for the field operators, pipeline engineers, and designers to be corrosion conscious as the lines and their component fittings would undergo material degradations due to corrosion.

This second edition of the EI's Guidance on corrosion management in oil and gas production and processing provides general principles and essential engineering guidance and requirements for improving corrosion management practices in oil and gas production and processing.
These costs and environmental risks could rise further in the years ahead, as new hydrocarbon sources are found in more challenging environments—deeper reservoirs with higher temperatures and pressures and containing greater concentrations of acid gases. It is widely recognized within the oil and gas industry that effective management of corrosion will contribute towards achieving the following benefits:. Assets in the upstream oil and gas environment needing protection from corrosion may include wells, risers, drilling rigs, offshore platforms, pipeline connectors, and more. This edition of this classic text is based on notes used by the authors for more than a decade in their course, The Corrosion and Protection of Metals. This book provides general coverage of the wide field of corrosion control.
