Personal development can also include developing other people's skills and personality. This may take place through roles such as those of a teacher or mentor, either through a personal competency such as the alleged skill of certain managers in developing the potential of employees or through a professional service such as providing training, assessment or coaching.

This study aims to examine the effects of using a personal development plan PDP on the undertaking of learning activities and the employee's job competencies. The results stress the value of a PDP as a feedback tool. In other words, the tool should more often be used to get an overview of desired future plans, plan future careers, and the undertaking of learning activities in order to reach these future goals.
